Before commercial yeast existed, bread was made by hand using live sourdough cultures and flour fresh from the local mill. The bread made in these traditional ways was full of nutrients and probiotics. In this workshop, you'll rediscover these time honored techniques. Participants will learn all of the steps for making naturally leavened, sourdough bread at home, in addition to exploring the world of freshly milled flour and it's benefits to both bread and the earth.
The day will include:
- Making a sourdough starter
- Mixing and rising bread
- Prepping additions for flavor
- Lunch
- Learning bread shaping techniques
- Baking shaped and risen bread
- Bread and wine tasting
At the end of the workshop, participants will take home their own sourdough starter, two loaves of freshly milled sourdough bread, and a bread basket for home baking.
